Q: What are the code requirements for a mezzanine room?

A: The total area of a mezzanine within a room cannot be greater than 1/3 of the room where it's located. Work platforms and mezzanines need to have a minimum height which is 14.7 feet between the ground floor and the ceiling. In other words, the clear height above and below a mezzanine cannot be less than 7 feet.

Q: What are the minimum requirements for a mezzanine floor?

A: You need to be fully compliant with all fire regulations in the law. If a mezzanine floor project is less than 10 sqm, the only fire-rated requirement you need is emergency lighting. If the floor is between 10 sqm and 20 sqm, you must have either fire resistance or fire detection methods in place.

Q: What is the joist spacing for a mezzanine?

A: Joists are C Purlins and spaced at 300, 400, 450 or 600mm centres depending on the design. Posts are made up of SHS that is welded to a Baseplate for fixing to the concrete slab and a Top Plate that is fixed to the bearer.
