How to prevent?
1. Select and Use Shelves Properly
When choosing shelves, consider the current market and application requirements. Select load-bearing shelves that match the characteristics of the goods, ensuring they meet quality standards and weight limits. Cost-efficiency is essential, but safety, durability, and load capacity must not be compromised. Compare options to choose shelves with reliable quality and avoid overloading, especially for high-level shelves.
Effective layout planning is crucial for safety and operational efficiency. A well-organized storage area enhances material integrity and reduces repetitive tasks, facilitating smooth movement for personnel within the warehouse.
2. Implement Protective Measures and Training
Adopt necessary protective equipment such as guardrails and shelf grids to prevent falling pallets. Ensure safety training for personnel is thorough and practical. For instance, maintain a height limit of 2.5 meters on the opposite side of the material to prevent tipping. Regularly check the stability of items on shelves and ensure forklifts are operated smoothly to avoid accidents.
3. Timely Replacement of Old Shelves
Storage shelves, typically made of metal, have a specific lifespan influenced by factors like temperature, humidity, light, and ventilation. Overuse can lead to safety hazards. To extend their service life, consider the following:
a. Regularly apply protective paint to reduce rust and perform daily inspections to secure loose screws. Ensure proper ventilation to prevent humidity.

b. Shield shelves from excessive sunlight, maintain proper ventilation, and avoid placing wet goods on shelves.
c. Install anti-collision columns and guardrails depending on shelf type and traffic conditions.
d. Ensure the weight on shelves does not exceed their capacity. Warehouse managers should clearly mark load limits and adhere to the principle of placing heavier items on the bottom and lighter ones on top.
e. Equip heavy-duty, high-rise shelf areas with power pushers, only operated by certified personnel to avoid damage from improper use.
f. Establish a shelf usage system tailored to different warehouses and goods. Warehouse managers should create guidelines for all shelf users to ensure safety and efficiency.
There are six rules for safe use of storage shelves:
1. Prevent overloading. Each layer's weight must not exceed the shelf's maximum load capacity.
2. Prevent excessive height and width. Ensure pallets and goods are slightly smaller than the shelf's clear dimensions.
3. Prevent collisions. Operate forklifts carefully.
Beam shelves:
4. Prevent top-heaviness. Place light items on top and heavy ones on the lower levels.
5. Avoid using non-standard pallets; "川" bottom pallets are most suitable.
6. When goods are on top shelves, operators should avoid entering the lower shelves directly.
In addition to these six rules, regularly inspect and repair storage shelves to ensure their longevity and quality.
